Welcome

Thank you for taking time to visit our website. The Greenville church of Christ is dedicated to the preaching and practice of Biblical Christianity (2 Timothy 4:1-2; 2 Thessalonians 2:15). We are a congregation that strives to be Bible based and Christ centered by holding to the pattern found in the New Testament (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Colossians 1:18; Philippians 3:17). If you are looking for a nondenominational church that uses the gospel, not gimmicks, to attract people to Christ, then we invite you to visit us. A warm welcome awaits you.

Who We Are

We are a Christ-centered, Bible-based, family-oriented church devoted to restoring New Testament Christianity. The New Testament is our pattern for what we believe and practice. We are not a denomination. Our congregation is independent and self-governing like the churches we read about in the New Testament. Our Beliefs The Bible is God’s Word Everything we believe, teach and practice as a church is based on the fundamental belief that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is our only rule of faith (2 Timothy 3:16-17). God’s Word endures forever. Its message is as relevant and meaningful today as it was 2000 years ago. The Bible is our only source of doctrine. It alone is our guide in all matters relating to our Christian faith and worship. Jesus Is the Christ, the Son of God All that we believe and do is directly linked to our belief and firm conviction that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16). Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). Salvation is found in no one else (Acts 4:12). The Greatest Command Is to Love The first and greatest command is to love God. The second greatest is to love one another (Matthew 22:36-40). Love does not diminish the need to obey. Jesus said that if we love Him we will keep His commandments (John 14:15). We are to imitate God and walk in love (Ephesians 5:1-2). We are to love one another (1 John 4:11-12). A Second Chance through a Redeemed Life. We have all sinned and are unable to save ourselves (Romans 3:23). Our salvation from sin involves God’s love and grace and our response. God gave His one and only Son as a sacrificial sin offering on the cross to redeem us (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:4-9). Salvation also involves our response to God’s love. We must listen to the Word of God (Romans 10:14,17). We must believe in Jesus Christ (John 3:16). That faith must be demonstrated by repentance or turning away from sin (Luke 13:3; Acts 3:19). Faith must be expressed by confessing our belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Acts 8:36-37; Romans 10:9-10). Baptism is also essential for salvation from our sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:26-27). We then live a faithful Christian life because we appreciate all that God and His Son have done for us (2 Corinthians 5:15; Galatians 2:20; 1 Peter 2:9).

Our Worship Since we are governed by the Bible, we follow the commands and examples of the New Testament church regarding our worship in our church assembly. We are determined to worship God as He ordained and believe that the Bible is the only guide in these matters. Our goal is to worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Praying The New Testament church was a praying church (Acts 2:42; Colossians 4:2). We pray in the name of Jesus (Ephesians 5:20). We pray with faith (James 5:13-18). Preaching Our preaching is Bible-based (2 Timothy 4:2). We desire to preach the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). We expect our preachers to speak according to the Word of God (1 Peter 4:11). Giving Each Sunday our members give cheerfully as they have been prospered and as they have purposed in their hearts (1 Corinthians 16:2; 2 Corinthians 9:7). Our congregation’s work is supported by these offerings and the voluntary service of our members. Singing Our congregational singing is “a cappella”. This means that we sing without the use of mechanical instruments of music. We follow the practice of the New Testament church (1 Corinthians 14:15; Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). The result is a beautiful blending of all voices in the assembly, seeking to praise and glorify God in spirit and truth. The Lord’s Supper We partake of the Lord’s Supper (also called communion) the first day of every week on the Lord’s Day (Sunday). This is observed in memory of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Acts 20:7). We follow this example of the first century Christians to remember Jesus by participating together in this communion.
